Across the island on foot
Ærø is easy to explore on foot: signposted coastal paths, a nature area with bird islands and routes that run between harbour, beach and fields without a car in sight.

Just a few minutes from Søby lies Vitsø, a 150-hectare nature area with a lake, salt meadows and three protected bird islands. A footpath leads all the way around the lake – ideal for birdwatching and quiet moments. This is where the coastal path ends, or begins. More about the village under Søby.
If you walk one stage and don’t want to walk back, you can take the free island bus, which connects Søby with Ærøskøbing and Marstal. Please check current timetables with the operator. How to get to Ærø is described under getting there.

The coastal path (Kyststien) is around 30 kilometres long and runs from Marstal to the Vitsø nature area near Søby. It is signposted all the way.
Yes: the Ø-Camino runs for 64 kilometres around the island. The coastal path and the Øhavsstien can also be combined into a round-island walk.
Yes, but leash rules apply: in woods all year round, on beaches from 1 April to 30 September. More under holiday with your dog.
