From Denmark, Germany and the rest of Europe
Despite its peaceful island location, Ærø is easy to reach by car, by plane and, of course, by ferry. Particularly convenient for guests of our holiday home on Ærø in Søby are the two ferry connections to Søby, as after arrival it is only a short drive to the cottage.
By car it is around 680 kilometres from Amsterdam to the ferry port of Fynshav. Take the A1 to the German border near Oldenzaal, continue on the A30 and the A1 past Osnabrück and Bremen to Hamburg, then follow the A7 towards Denmark. After the border, follow the signs for Sønderborg and Fynshav, where the ferry takes about an hour to Søby – and from the harbour it is only a few minutes to the cottage.
Prefer to break up the journey? An overnight stop on the way, for example in Hamburg or Flensburg, makes the first day of your holiday far more relaxed.
From Maastricht it is around 720 kilometres to Fynshav. The fastest route usually runs through the Ruhr area and along the German A1 past Münster and Bremen to Hamburg, then on the A7 to Denmark. From the border, the last stretch is the same as from Amsterdam: via Sønderborg to Fynshav and by ferry to Søby.
Check the current train, bus and ferry timetables shortly before you travel – and book your crossing early in high season.
For guests from Germany or air travellers via Hamburg Airport, the journey along the A7 towards Denmark is a good option.
From Fynshav the ferry sails directly to Søby on Ærø. The crossing takes around 60 minutes and brings you to the side of the island where Dansk Cottage is located.
This route is particularly comfortable, as after the ferry arrives in Søby only a short drive to our cottage is needed.
Another very attractive option is the journey via Funen and Faaborg.
From Faaborg the ferry sails directly to Søby. This connection too brings you to the side of the island that is particularly well placed for Dansk Cottage.
The route is ideal if you are travelling via Funen or would like to combine your trip through Denmark with a stay in the region.
For international air travellers, Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is a very good alternative.
From the airport you continue by rental car or train across Zealand and Funen towards South Funen.
For the crossing to Ærø there are then several options:
