This website is hosted by an external hosting provider (Hostinger). When the site is accessed, the server automatically collects so-called server log files, which your browser transmits automatically. These include: IP address, date and time of the request, browser type and version, operating system used and the previously visited page (referrer URL). This data is processed exclusively for the technical provision and security of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in secure and functional operation) and is not combined with other data sources.
We embed the font used (Montserrat) locally on our own server. There is no connection to servers of Google or other third parties, and no data is transmitted to third parties.
This website stores your selected language (Dutch/English) in your browser's local storage (LocalStorage) so that your choice is retained on a return visit. No personal data is collected, no cookies are set and no data is transmitted to us or third parties — the information remains exclusively on your device.
If you contact us by email, your details (email address, where applicable name and message) are stored and processed exclusively to deal with your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). They are not passed on to third parties.
On our “Booking request” page you can use a form to tell us your preferred dates without obligation. The following details are processed: name, email address, optionally telephone number, number of guests, desired arrival and departure period and an optional message.
The data is transmitted to us by email exclusively to process your enquiry (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, initiation of a contract). The transmission takes place directly from our own server to our email address – no external form or analytics provider is integrated. The data is not passed on to third parties. It is deleted as soon as it is no longer required to process your enquiry.
The same applies to the enquiry form on our page “Web design & hosting” (/en/webdesign/). There we process your name, company or holiday home, email address, optionally your phone number and existing website, the services selected and your project description. The data is only sent if you consent in the form and is transmitted to us by email solely to handle your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). It is not stored in a database or passed on to third parties, and it is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed to handle your enquiry.
This website uses the web analytics service Google Analytics (GA4) from Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies or similar technologies that enable an analysis of how our website is used (e. g. pages viewed, time spent, approximate origin of visitors). The information generated in this way is generally transmitted to a Google server, including in the USA, and processed there.
Google Analytics is activated on this website only after you have expressly given your consent via the cookie consent banner (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR in conjunction with Section 25(1) TTDSG). Without your consent, no data is collected or transmitted to Google. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by changing your selection via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of this page or by deleting the cookies stored in your browser.
Further information on how Google handles user data can be found in Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
If you sign up for our newsletter, we use your email address to send you information about the opening of Dansk Cottage, available dates, the construction diary and Ærø. Registration takes place using the double opt-in procedure: after signing up you will receive an email with a confirmation link. Only after your confirmation do we add your address to the mailing list. Unconfirmed sign-ups expire after 48 hours. The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
To prove your consent, we store the time of registration and confirmation, a shortened IP address (the last segment is removed) and the version of the consent text. The data is stored on the server of our hosting provider Hostinger (see section 2); the confirmation email is sent via its mail server. We send the newsletter ourselves from an email programme; no additional mailing service provider is used. Your data is deleted as soon as you unsubscribe or we discontinue the newsletter.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future, for example via the unsubscribe link in every email or by sending a message to Floto@danskcottage.dk.
When we send you a booking confirmation for signature, we process the information required for this: name, address, email address, optionally telephone number, period of stay, number of adults, children and dogs, prices and payment terms and any individual agreements. You receive a personal link by email to a page on this website. The link contains no personal data, only a random access key, and is valid for a limited time; no customer account is required. We record when the page was opened and the document was downloaded (without IP address). If you request a correction via the page, we store your message.
If you sign the booking confirmation electronically, we store the following as a record: the name you entered, your signature (the drawn line), the date and time, the exact wording of the statements you confirmed, the version of the rental terms, a checksum of the signed document, and your IP address and browser identifier (user agent). We send the signed document to you and to ourselves as a PDF by email.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (conclusion and performance of the rental contract). Storing the IP address and browser identifier serves to document that and how the signature was made (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in being able to prove the conclusion of the contract). Statutory retention obligations also apply to storage (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
The data is stored without public access on the server of our hosting provider Hostinger (see section 2), with the PDF documents additionally encrypted; emails are sent via its mail servers. No external signature service is used, and the data is not passed on to any other third parties. Signed booking confirmations and the associated record are kept for the statutory retention periods and then deleted. Unsigned, expired or withdrawn versions are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed.
On our “Photo gallery” page you can send us photos and short videos of Dansk Cottage and Ærø for publication in the gallery. In doing so, we process your name or first name, your email address, optionally a public photographer name, picture title and description, the chosen category, the uploaded files, and the time, language and version of your confirmations (rights to the pictures, consent of people shown, publication in the gallery). To protect against misuse, we limit the number of submissions per connection: for this we process your IP address briefly and do not store it in plain text, only as an encrypted check value, which we delete after 24 hours at the latest. No IP address is stored with the submission itself.
We store your email address in encrypted form. It is visible only to us, is used solely for questions about your submission and is never published. Pictures are recalculated on upload, which removes embedded metadata such as camera data and GPS location. We remove location and device information from videos. We do not store the original files. Until we have made a decision, the files are kept in a non-public area on the server of our hosting provider Hostinger (see section 2). We are notified of new submissions by an email containing neither pictures nor your email address. Your data is not passed on to third parties.
Only pictures and videos that we approve individually are published – together with title, description and, only if you have provided it, your public photographer name. The gallery appears on our websites danskcottage.de, .dk, .com, .ch, .ae and .nl and in our app. There is no use for advertising, social media or other publications.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and, for protection against misuse, our legitimate interest in operating the website securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future and request the removal of published pictures and the deletion of your submission – by email to Floto@danskcottage.dk or via our contact page. We delete unpublished or rejected submissions as soon as they are no longer needed; published pictures are kept until you withdraw your consent or until we remove them from the gallery.
You have the right at any time to obtain information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients and the purpose of the data processing and, where applicable, a right to rectification, restriction or erasure of this data. For this and for further questions on data protection, you can contact us at any time at the email address given above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.
