Dansk Cottage Segelradar
Recalculated every day: if your boat is in Søby, Ærøskøbing or Marstal today – where is it really worth sailing given the wind, waves and weather? And sometimes our honest answer is: today we would not set sail – and then you get our ideas for a lovely day on Ærø.

Green recommended, yellow with care, red not recommended today. Dashed: 30 nautical miles around your harbour. Click a point to see the route.
Distances are estimated sea routes from your harbour; the assessment applies to the selected day. For a trip to the Schlei with bridge times and water levels there is a separate page: From Ærø to the Schlei.
Every hour we fetch the forecasts for wind, gusts, fog, thunderstorm probability and sea state for the whole area and check every destination along its route – at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 per cent of the distance, each at the time you would be there. Daylight is taken into account, as is the question of when you can realistically get back.
Safety first: with more than 20 knots of mean wind, gusts above 27 knots, waves above 1.5 metres, significantly reduced visibility or a risk of thunderstorms we recommend no destination. Between 15 and 20 knots or with waves above one metre we only show short trips of up to 15 nautical miles. The 0–100 rating is a comparison aid – not a safety clearance. The limits are our editorial judgement for a relaxed trip.
The routes are calculated schematically from the coastline and know nothing about depths, shoals or restricted areas. More about the island is on the page Sailing around Ærø.
Dansk Cottage’s sailing tips are intended solely as travel inspiration and for general planning. Weather and model data can change at short notice. The information does not replace current official marine weather forecasts, nautical charts, navigation documents, local warnings or the skipper’s own judgement.
Official warnings are currently not evaluated automatically in the Segelradar. Please check before every departure: DMI – Farvandsudsigter og varsler · DWD – Seewetterbericht
